Voters cast ballots in EU and council elections

Millions of people will be casting a ballot later in the European election and local council polls in England and Northern Ireland.

It is the final big test of public opinion before 2015's general election.

EU and council election polls open at 7am

Voting in the European and council elections will open at 7 am this morning, as the main political parties brace to see the impact UKIP may have on the polls. Across the UK, voters will decide on:

  • 73 Euro MPs
  • 4,000 council seats at 161 English local authorities
  • Northern Ireland is reducing its districts from 26 to 12, and 11 of the new districts will vote
