Seven dead after Santa Barbara shooting

Seven people are dead and seven more have been injured in a drive-by shooting in Santa Barbara, California.

The incident happened in the student area, Isla Vista, next to the University of California.

The shooting began at 9.30pm. The gunman fired at people from within his car at nine different locations. The shooter and six others were killed. The suspected gunman died of a gunshot wound. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's office has not confirmed whether the injury was self-inflicted.

Seven people were taken to hospital. At least one has had surgery for life-threatening injuries. A YouTube video making threats to Isla Vista residents is being examined by the authorities.
