British-born gunman Elliot Rodger, who stabbed and killed his US college room-mates before embarking on a shooting rampage, convinced authorities that he was not a threat during a welfare check to his home last month.

Suspected gunman's family offer condolences

The family of British-born California shootings suspect Elliot Rodger "send their deepest condolences to all of the victims' families", their attorney has said.

The 22-year-old was born in the UK but moved to the United States as a child.

His father, film-maker Peter Rodger, was educated in Maidstone, Kent and was assistant director on 2012 blockbuster The Hunger Games.
