Manaus declares emergency as Amazon river swells

Brazilian World Cup host city Manaus has declared a 180-day state of emergency, as an Amazon River tributary swells, yet officials don't expect it to flood the city.

Manaus city hall spokeswoman Jacira Oliveira said the emergency is a preventive measure to assure swift access to emergency resources, if the Rio Negro unexpectedly breaks its banks.
