The former presenter - a TV favourite in the '80s and '90s - saw his career effectively come to an end when Mr Lubbock was found dead at his Essex mansion in March 2001, with internal injuries suggesting the 31-year-old was the victim of a sexual assault before his death.

Barrymore, 62, who has previously described the events as "just a party that went disastrously wrong, with a tragic ending," will also discuss his subsequent fall from grace and his battle with drink and drugs on the ITV show.

It will form part of a series of celebrity specials that will also feature Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder, former 'It-girl' Tara Palmer-Tompkinson, ex-Coronation Street star Liz Dawn and Michael Jackson's brother Tito.
