Ukip's surge will 'continue into the general election'

Most people who voted for UKIP in the European elections will vote for the party again in next year's general election, according to a new poll.

The ComRes poll published in the Daily Telegraph suggests 86% of UKIP's 4.3 million voters will continue to back the party in 2015.

The survey found that 37% of Ukip voters said that they were “certain” to support the party at the general election. Another 49% said that they were “likely” to do so, while 14% said that they would probably back another party.

The poll was commissioned by Paul Sykes, Ukip’s biggest financial backer.
