New Facebook app can 'listen' to your music

Social media giant Facebook has added a new feature to its mobile app that can detect what music users are listening to and what TV shows people are watching.

If the song or show is recognised by the app, users can share the information with friends on their profile.

The feature uses similar technology to the app Shazam, which can be used to identify any song, TV show or movie simply by holding up the phone's microphone while audio is playing.

"Today, we're making conversations quicker and easier by introducing a new way to share and discover music, TV and movies," Aryeh Selekman, product manager at Facebook, said.

When writing a status update - if you choose to turn the feature on - you'll have the option to use your phone's microphone to identify what song is playing or what show or movie is on TV.
