Pupil's 'firework' sparks bomb alert at Kent school

A bomb disposal unit was called into a Kent school after a pupil took in what is thought to be an old firework.

Police were called to South Borough school in the town of Maidstone after a member of staff reported the pupil bringing in the item.

A Kent police statement said: "Children are safely in other parts of the school while officers work. Some nearby recreational areas have been closed as a precaution."
