A shopper was left surprised after a quail egg she bought from Waitrose hatched.
Surrey woman Mandy Clayton, 49, said one of the eggs that didn't make it into her salad ended up as a family pet called Rose.
Mother-of-six Mrs Clayton said: "I'd bought a dozen quails' eggs for a barbecue, and had four left over from the salad, so I just put them in the incubator to see what would happen.
"I know they were free range eggs, but I really didn’t expect one to hatch. It was in there 16 days in all."
