The leader of the Islamic State, formerly Isis, has released the first audiotape calling for jihad since the group renamed. The group is currently battling Iraqi forces across large parts of the country.

ISIS pictures 'show captured soldiers being shot dead'

The group of Islamist fighters that have captured several cities across northern Iraq have posted pictures that appear to show its fighters shooting dead dozens of captured soldiers.

The pictures on a militant website appear to show masked fighters from ISIS loading captives on to trucks before forcing them to lie face-down in a shallow ditch with their arms tied behind their backs.

The final images appear to show the bodies of the captives soaked in blood after being shot.
