Suicide bomb kills 'at least 9' in central Baghdad

A suicide bomb in central Baghdad this morning killed at least nine people and injured 20, police said.

The attacker detonated an explosive vest near Tahrir Square in the centre of the city.

The attack comes as the federal government battles a Sunni militant-led insurgency from the north of the country.

Islamic State leader calls for jihad in audio message

The leader of the Islamic State, formerly Isis, has released the first audiotape calling for jihad since the group renamed. The group is currently battling Iraqi forces across large parts of the country.
