Mother jailed for 'heartless and brutal' surrogate scam

A surrogate mother who claimed she miscarried the grandchild of Osama bin Laden has been jailed for three years and four months after faking pregnancies to make £15,000 from couples desperate to have a baby.

Lousie Pollard, 28, agreed to carry babies for two couples and pretended to inseminate herself on three occasions.

She then asked them for money for various things. When they demanded proof of conception, she pretended to have a miscarriage on one occasion and sent a forged letter on another.

Pollard later admitted three charges of fraud by false representation relating to the faked pregnancies in March 2012, May 2012 and November 2012.

Judge Graham Cottle said her actions were "brutal and heartless" as he jailed her this morning at Bristol Crown Court.
