The leader of the Islamic State, formerly Isis, has released the first audiotape calling for jihad since the group renamed. The group is currently battling Iraqi forces across large parts of the country.

US: ISIS massacre claims 'horrifying'

In a statement, a spokeswoman for the State Department said that the reports of mass murders claimed by ISIS could not be confirmed.

The claim by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) that it has massacred 1700 Iraqi Shia air force recruits in Tikrit is horrifying and a true depiction of the bloodlust that these terrorists represent.
