The leader of the Islamic State, formerly Isis, has released the first audiotape calling for jihad since the group renamed. The group is currently battling Iraqi forces across large parts of the country.

'Duty of the world' to help Iraq fight 'terrorist scourge'

The world has a duty to fight the ongoing "terrorist scourge" in northern Iraq, Zuhair al-Nahar, a spokesman for the Iraqi prime minister has told the BBC.

Mr al-Nahar said: "The government and the armed forces and the volunteers have stopped any advance of the Isis terrorists.

"This terrorist scourge is destabilising the whole area. Iraq needs all the support it can get," he said.

The Iraqi Ministry of Defence have also uploaded a number of videos to YouTube, claiming targeted airstrikes in Nineveh, Salahuddin and Samarra.
