Turkey evacuates consulate in Basra

Turkey has evacuated its consulate in the southern Iraq city of Basra due to an increased security risk in Iraq, Reuters has reported.

A foreign ministry official told Reuters the 18 staff members, including the consul general, would return to Turkey from Kuwait and that there were no plans to evacuate the embassy in Baghdad.

The leader of the Islamic State, formerly Isis, has released the first audiotape calling for jihad since the group renamed. The group is currently battling Iraqi forces across large parts of the country.
