The leader of the Islamic State, formerly Isis, has released the first audiotape calling for jihad since the group renamed. The group is currently battling Iraqi forces across large parts of the country.

Senate leader: 'not in US interests' to send troops to Iraq

The US Senate majority leader Harry Reid has refused to back any potential plans to send American troops into conflict in Iraq, calling the situation a "civil war."

"I do not support in any way putting our men and women in the midst of this civil war in Iraq. It is not in the national security interest of our country," Reid said in remarks opening the Senate's daily session.
