The leader of the Islamic State, formerly Isis, has released the first audiotape calling for jihad since the group renamed. The group is currently battling Iraqi forces across large parts of the country.

Kurdish forces fight Isis soldiers in Iraqi city of Kirkuk

Kurdish peshmerga fighters have been clashing with Islamist militants around the Iraqi city of Kirkuk, a city 236 milles north of Baghdad.

The Kurdish flag has been seen across vehicles around the area, as Kurdish forces moved into the region, after the Iraqi army abandoned their base last week.

The oil rich city is out of the formal boundary of their enclave, and is the biggest of a number of new areas taken by Kurdish forces, who have taken advantage of the chaos to expand their territory.

Video posted on social media appears to show the clashes taking place this morning. ITV News cannot independently verify the footage.
