Miller calls for revenge porn to be outlawed

Distribution of revenge pornography should be made a criminal offence, Maria Miller has told MPs.

Mrs Miller, who resigned as Culture Secretary over an expenses row in April this year, said the forthcoming Serious Crime Bill could be used by ministers to outlaw the practice, insisting it would give internet companies a stronger basis to remove uploaded images.

She said: "Some revenge porn postings are part of a pattern of behaviour and given the nature of the material involved, the protection of harassment act could be used to provide protection in some cases, but it has to be a series of offences, not a one off - which many of these postings are.

"I'm concerned this existing legal framework does not provide the protection required."
