Australian government 'appalled at jail term'

The Australian government said it was "appalled" at the seven year jail term handed to Australian Al-Jazeera journalist Peter Greste by a court in Egypt, AFP reports.

Minute's silence held for jailed Al-Jazeera journalists

A minute's silence was held in protest at the sentence of three Al-Jazeera journalists who were each jailed in Cairo on Monday. Meanwhile, newly elected Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said he would not interfere with judicial sentences.
