Ukraine President welcomes 'first step' to resolve crisis

Ukraine's President has said a move from Kremlin to deny Russian forces the right to intervene in Ukraine is "the first practical step" from Vladimir Putin to resolve the crisis in eastern Ukraine.

Russian news agencies have reported that Mr Putin asked for a previous resolution allowing military intervention to be revoked by Russia's parliament, the Duma.

A statement on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko's website said it was "the first practical step since the Russian President formally supported the Ukraine's peace plan".
