The "mummified" body of an elderly woman has been found at a flat in Bournemouth where she is believed to have lain undiscovered since 2008.
Neighbours said they had not seen the woman, named locally as Anne Leitrim, for six years and believed that she had moved, leaving her ground floor flat in Throop empty, the Bournemouth Daily Echo reported.
Bailiffs found the remains of the woman, who was believed to be in her 70s, after entering the property through a window that had been left ajar.
John Stanley, who has lived in the building for eight years, told the newspaper that neighbours were "shocked" by the discovery.
“We didn't think anyone was living there. Her car went and we just thought she had moved out," he said.
“There are cobwebs in the windows and we used to joke there could be a body inside but we had no idea.”
A spokesman from Dorset Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious.
