The World Cup is the most talked-about event in Facebook history with one billion comments.
The football tournament in Brazil has sparked conversations involving 220 million people and a billion posts, likes and opinions so far.
Nick Grudin, Facebook's director of partnerships, told Reuters: "This Cup has been a catalysing cultural moment for people around the world and we see it reflected on Facebook.
"People are having conversations on Facebook about what they watch in a really unprecedented scale."
The first week of the World Cup alone saw 459 million interactions on the social networking site - more than this year’s Super Bowl, the Sochi Winter Olympic Games and the Oscars combined.
