STV to host first live Scottish referendum TV debate

Broadcaster STV has announced that it will host the first live TV debate ahead of the Scottish independence referendum.

The debate will see the leader of the SNP, Alex Salmond, face off against the head of the 'Better Together' campaign, former Labour cabinet minister Alistair Darling.


The debate will take place on Tuesday August 5th and be broadcast from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow between 8pm and 10pm.

STV's political editor, Bernard Ponsonby, will chair the debate, which takes place in front of an audience of 350 people chosen to reflect a range of different opinions.
