Egypt reopens border crossing with Gaza

Egypt has reopened a border crossing with Gaza to allow ambulances ferrying the wounded in for treatment.

The Rafah crossing has been largely sealed since the July 2013 ouster of President Mohammed Morsi, has also been used to transport 500 tonnes of Egyptian food and medical supplies into the enclave.

Israel has launched a ground offensive in Gaza with residents reporting heavy shelling in the area. Palestinian health officials say 27 Palestinians, including a baby, two children and a 70-year-old woman, have been killed since Israel sent ground forces into the densely-populated strip of 1.8 million Palestinians.
