Israel has launched a ground offensive in Gaza with residents reporting heavy shelling in the area.

Palestinian health officials say 27 Palestinians, including a baby, two children and a 70-year-old woman, have been killed since Israel sent ground forces into the densely-populated strip of 1.8 million Palestinians.

Medics: Israeli airstrike killed two disabled women

Two disabled women were killed and four others wounded and in a serious condition when an Israeli tank shell struck a care home for disabled people in the eastern part of Gaza City, Palestinian medics said.

Nine people were killed in total as Israel pounded Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip for a fifth day, the medical officials added.
