Punk icon Tommy Ramone dies

Tommy Ramone, the last remaining original member of legendary punk group the Ramones, has died, the band's official Twitter account has announced.

The drummer and producer - who the Associated Press reports was 62 years old - was born in Budapest, Hungary with the surname Erdelyi.

Ramone was receiving hospice care for bile duct cancer at the end of his life, according to Variety.

The band is best known for its "loud and fast" brand of punk - exemplified by songs such as Blitzkrieg Bop and the Sheena is a Punk Rocker - which influenced a raft of other artists.
