Israel will intensify its week-old military offensive against Hamas in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, after the militant group continued firing rockets at Israel, Reuters have reported.
"It would have been preferable to have solved this diplomatically, and this is what we tried to do when we accepted the Egyptian proposal for a ceasefire, but Hamas leaves us no choice but to expand and intensify the campaign against it," Mr Netanyahu said in broadcast remarks.
It's been an emotionally exhausting day in Israel and Gaza as hopes for peace were raised then dashed then raised then dashed again.
In the court of international opinion, this is how Israel wins a battle and still manages to lose the war.
Until the Israelis and the Palestinians find a way of resolving the underlining conflict this will not be more than a pause.
