Powerful storms threaten to hit UK after hot spell

Powerful storms are threatening to hit the UK this weekend despite temperatures rising to around 30C by the end of the week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain for Saturday over England and Wales, which is set to see heavy, thundery showers, hail and strong gusts of wind.

In a statement, the Met Office said: "Significant flooding is possible where these do occur from surface water as well as small, fast responding watercourses".

Areas said to be affected include East Midlands, East of England, London and south east England, north east England, north west England, south west England, Wales, West Midlands, Yorkshire and Humber.
