The downed Malaysia Airlines plane did not make a distress call, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak told a press conference. He said that if the aircraft was shot down, the perpetrators must be "swiftly brought to justice".
He told reporters that a special team from Malaysia would help with the recovery operation in Kiev, adding that "no stone would be left unturned".
Mr Razak said that he agreed with President Obama that investigators should get full access to the crash site, saying that the operation "should not be hindered in any way".
Thousands of online users have taken to social media to call for the victims of the Malaysian airliner crash to be returned to loved ones.
United States intelligence officials admitted that they do not know who fired the surface-to-air missile that downed flight MH17.
