UN to hold emergency talks on Gaza later today

The United Nations Security Council is to hold an emergency meeting on Gaza later today, diplomats said.

The talks, requested by Jordan, come as Israel rolled tanks and soldiers into Gaza as strikes from the air and sea continued.

In Rafah today, five Palestinians were killed by tank shelling, including a two-year-old boy.

So far the airstrikes have killed more than 260 Palestinians and wounded more than 2,000, health officials say.

In Israel, one civilian has died and several others have been wounded.
