UN school in Gaza hit by shelling for second time

A United Nations school sheltering people who have fled Israeli airstrikes in Gaza has been hit by shelling from Israeli shelling, the UN said.

Fighting has now been raging for 16 days and has left more than 650 dead.

Miliband: Israel escalation 'will win them no friends'

Labour leader Ed Miliband says his party opposes any "further escalation of violence" by Israel's military in Gaza.

As a party we oppose the further escalation of violence we have seen with Israel’s invasion of Gaza.

Because we have been here before and we know what happens next.

More loss of life, more Palestinian suffering, more hatred and more recruits to the ranks of terrorist groups like Hamas.

This escalation will serve no lasting purpose and will do nothing to win Israel friends.
