Downing Street said it was "increasingly likely" that the disaster, which left 10 Britons dead, was caused by a surface-to-air missile fired from a rebel-held area in eastern Ukraine.

Six experts from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch will join the probe amid growing international condemnation of the incident.

The Foreign Office has sent extra consular staff to Ukraine, while the Metropolitan Police is to send specialist officers to the country to assist with the recovery of those killed.
