US actor James Garner - best known for his roles in Maverick, The Rockford Files and the Great Escape, has died aged 86, Los Angeles Police say.
Garner received an Oscar nomination for Murphy's Romance but is perhaps better remembered as ex-con turned private eye Jim Rockford.
He won an Emmy for his role in the TV series, and was also awarded highest honour of the Screen Actors Guild in 2004.
There were no further details immediately available about the circumstances of his death.
