UN school in Gaza hit by shelling for second time

A United Nations school sheltering people who have fled Israeli airstrikes in Gaza has been hit by shelling from Israeli shelling, the UN said.

Fighting has now been raging for 16 days and has left more than 650 dead.

'At least 40 Palestinians killed in neighbourhood attacks

At least 40 Palestinians have been killed today by Israeli shelling of the Gaza neighbourhood of Shejaia, a medical official said.

"Forty martyrs have been counted so far and bodies were picked up. Medics are searching for possibly more casualties," Naser Tattar, director of Gaza's Shifa hospital, told Reuters.

He said some 400 people were wounded in the Israeli attack.
