UN school in Gaza hit by shelling for second time

A United Nations school sheltering people who have fled Israeli airstrikes in Gaza has been hit by shelling from Israeli shelling, the UN said.

Fighting has now been raging for 16 days and has left more than 650 dead.

Palestinian leadership 'proposes cease-fire in Gaza'

The Palestinian leadership has proposed a plan to Egypt for a cease-fire in Gaza with a further five days of talks planned, a Fatah official in Cairo has said.

"The Palestinian leadership offered a new suggestion in the framework of the Egyptian initiative for a ceasefire followed immediately by negotiations lasting five days," Fatah official al-Ahmed said.
