UN school in Gaza hit by shelling for second time

A United Nations school sheltering people who have fled Israeli airstrikes in Gaza has been hit by shelling from Israeli shelling, the UN said.

Fighting has now been raging for 16 days and has left more than 650 dead.

Kerry: 'Steps forward' in Israel-Gaza peace talks

US Secretary of State John Kerry said some progress has been made in efforts to end the 16 days of violence between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Shortly after arriving in Jerusalem this morning for a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said:

We have certainly made some steps forward. There is still work to be done.
