MPs urge greater powers for registrars to halt sham marriages

Registrars should be given greater powers so they can stop weddings they believe are "bogus", an influential group of MPs has said. The Home Affairs Select Committee said more needed to be done to prevent what had become immigration scam "industry".

Border chief urges more reporting of sham marriages

There needs to better reporting of shame marriages from registrars in order to tackle the influx of people exploiting the immigration loophole, accroding to the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration.

John Vine told Good Morning Britain where was "a very patchy" picture of sham marriages sent to the Home Office, and authorities believe the problem has been grossly underreported.
