Fireworks exploded after 200 evacuated over 'bomb scare'

Homemade fireworks have been revealed as the cause of a bomb scare which forced a mass evacuation of homes and led to seven controlled explosions by bomb disposal teams.

Up to 200 people were forced to leave their houses in Derbyshire after police said they found a potentially volatile substance in a flat. A 55-year-old man was arrested.

A 55-year-old man has been arrested after a "potentially volatile substance" was discovered at a flat in Newhall, forcing the evacuation of up to 200 people.

Derbyshire Police said the evacuation was a precaution, and residents would be allowed to return to their homes as soon as possible.
