Dozens of inmates cause disturbance at 'crisis' prison

Dozens of inmates have been involved in a major disturbance at a crisis-hit prison after 120 prisoners refused to return to their cells.

Firefighters and police were called in to help quell a "serious incident" that lasted for around eight hours at HMP Ranby in Nottinghamshire, two days after a report condemned the prison as in "crisis".

The Prison Officers' Association said 60 prisoners were "actively involved" in the disturbance, which caused minor fire damage but no injuries to staff or inmates.
