The international community is "failing Palestinians" by not acting to "stop the war machine." according to the Palestinian ambassador to the UN. Addressing the UN Security Council Dr Riyad Mansour said Palestinians were angry about "crimes against our people and the killing of large numbers of civilians, child and women."
He added: "Our people in the Gaza strip are correct in saying that the international community is failing them. "I hope the Security Council will reach a conclusion to adopt a resolution calling for this aggression to stop. "This is not going after a political group. This is 1.8 million civilians in the Gaza Strip."
But the Israeli UN ambassador Ron Prosor said: "Israel does not shy away from accepting responsibility. Members of the international community have been quick to condemn Israel, but slow to condemn Hamas for its war crimes."
There have been two days of quiet in Gaza. No rockets or missiles, no more destroyed houses, no more ambulance sirens screaming.
