A ceasefire plan proposed by Egypt to end the violence in Gaza has been backed by the European Union.
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said during a visit to Cairo that the EU gave its full support to the initiative, put forward by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's government.
"In the name of Europe, I am convinced that the road map put forward by the Egyptian president deserves the full attention of the European institutions," Renzi said.
