Ebola outbreak could infect '1.4 million' by January

The worst Ebola outbreak on record is now projected to infect up to 1.4 million by January 2015, according to scientists and studying the deadly virus.

The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has risen to at least 3,091 out of a total 6,574 cases, the World Health Organisation has said.

Plane with an Ebola-infected American leaves for US

A plane carrying one of two US aid workers infected with the deadly Ebola virus has left Liberia for the United States, a spokesperson for the charity Samaritan's Purse said.

The plane was carrying Dr. Kent Brantly. The second Samaritan's Purse staff member, missionary Nancy Writebol, is due to be transported on a later flight, as the plane is only equipped to carry one patient at a time.

The charity said on Friday the medical evacuations should be completed by early next week.
