Three top Hamas commanders killed in Israeli strike

Three senior Hamas military commanders have been killed in Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip, the Islamist militant group said.

Hamas named the men as Mohammed Abu Shammala, Raed al-Attar and Mohammed Barhoum and said they were killed in a bombing of a house in the southern town of Rafah.

Netanyahu: 'Israel will do whatever it must to protect its people'

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has scuppered any hopes of a ceasefire in Gaza by promising to keep on fighting Hamas.

He said: "Hamas mistakenly believes that the people of Israel do not have the will or determination to fight them.

"Hamas will again learn the hard way that Israel will do whatever it must do to protect its people."
