Three top Hamas commanders killed in Israeli strike

Three senior Hamas military commanders have been killed in Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip, the Islamist militant group said.

Hamas named the men as Mohammed Abu Shammala, Raed al-Attar and Mohammed Barhoum and said they were killed in a bombing of a house in the southern town of Rafah.

Egypt makes renewed push to secure Gaza ceasefire

Egypt has called on Israel and the Palestinian factions to start a three-day ceasefire in Gaza at 6am UK time tomorrow.

It has also invited all parties to send senior delegations to Cairo for talks aimed at reaching a permanent resolution to the crisis that has left 1,700 people dead.

"We hope this will secure a permanent ceasefire and restore stability," the Egyptian foreign ministry said tonight.
