Three top Hamas commanders killed in Israeli strike

Three senior Hamas military commanders have been killed in Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip, the Islamist militant group said.

Hamas named the men as Mohammed Abu Shammala, Raed al-Attar and Mohammed Barhoum and said they were killed in a bombing of a house in the southern town of Rafah.

Israel 'agrees to Gaza ceasefire', official says

Israel tonight has agreed to an Egyptian proposal for a three-day ceasefire in the month-long Gaza conflict that will start at 6am UK time tomorrow.

An unnamed Israeli official told Reuters: "We agree to begin implementing the Egyptian initiative. If the ceasefire is upheld there will be no need for any presence of [Israeli] forces in the Gaza Strip."

Israeli media reports said that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's security cabinet had reached the decision in a round of phone calls.
