Three top Hamas commanders killed in Israeli strike

Three senior Hamas military commanders have been killed in Israeli air strike in the Gaza Strip, the Islamist militant group said.

Hamas named the men as Mohammed Abu Shammala, Raed al-Attar and Mohammed Barhoum and said they were killed in a bombing of a house in the southern town of Rafah.

UN General Assembly to be briefed on Gaza conflict

The United Nations General Assembly will hold an informal meeting on Wednesday to hear briefings by senior officials on the war in Gaza at the request of Arab nations.

UN members will be briefed by officials including the head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees and the special coordinator for the Middle East peace process.

The more powerful Security Council has called for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, but not in a legally binding resolution.
