Man sectioned over Manchester Airport flight bomb hoax

A 47-year-old man arrested after a suspected bomb hoax on a Manchester Airport-bound flight has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act, Greater Manchester Police said.

A passenger on a Qatar Airways plane, which landed at Manchester Airport with an RAF Typhoon escort, has been arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat.

Fears were initially raised over "a possible device on board" by the pilot on board flight QR23 from Doha, Qatar, as it approached the airport.

Fears of a bomb threat prompted a full-scale security operation that saw a Qatar Airways plane flown into Manchester Airport accompanied by a fighter jet today.
