Man sectioned over Manchester Airport flight bomb hoax

A 47-year-old man arrested after a suspected bomb hoax on a Manchester Airport-bound flight has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act, Greater Manchester Police said.

A passenger on a Qatar Airways plane, which landed at Manchester Airport with an RAF Typhoon escort, has been arrested on suspicion of making a hoax bomb threat.

Fears were initially raised over "a possible device on board" by the pilot on board flight QR23 from Doha, Qatar, as it approached the airport.

Police escort man off Qatar Airways plane

A passenger on the Qatar Airways plane which was escorted to Manchester Airport by an RAF jet after the pilot was told about a possible device on board, has tweeted a picture of a suspect being led away by police.
