Cameron calls on EU to double Ebola funding

David Cameron has called for EU leaders to double their funding in the fight against Ebola to £800 million.

It comes after one of the doctors who discovered the virus, Professor Peter Piot, said the rest of Europe was not doing enough to tackle the epidemic.

Downing Street said the current total contribution from the EU was just £400 million.

Ebola 'collapsing' Liberia's health care system

The health care system in Liberia is on the verge of collapse because of the Ebola virus, according the country's foreign minister.

Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan said hospitals were closing down and medical workers were fleeing as the epidemic spread.

He said: "People are dying from common diseases because the health care system is collapsing. It is going to have a long-term impact, even after this crisis is behind us."
