Commander Sarah West has been "removed from command", but a spokesman for the Royal Navy said she would remain in the service in another post.

The 42-year-old, who was took charge of HMS Portland in May 2012, left her vessel in July amid claims of a relationship with a fellow sailor.

The Royal Navy said it would not be disclosing any details into the outcome of an inquiry into whether she breached the armed forces' code of social conduct.
